Better than using the word “said”
Use:
Announced Begged
Bragged Queried
Complained Wailed
Confessed Uttered
Explained Described
Groaned Sobbed
Grumbled Cheered
Screamed Ordered
Pleaded Wept
Shouted Recited
These verbs make our writing interesting
Examples:
“My foot hurts” groaned Jack.
“Get on with your work” ordered the teacher.
You now have a great variety of much more colourful words than 'said', which makes your writing much more interesting indeed. Thank you for also giving me ideas to make my writing and language more expressive.
ReplyDeleteMorena Karhmyn,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your ideas for making verbs more interesting. It is always a good idea to re read our stories/writing to come up with ways to make it sound more exciting! I didn't realise there were so many different ways of saying 'said'. I know the students at Panmure Bridge School have worked really hard on creating their own rubrics for writing. Check out their rubric on their class site - https://sites.google.com/a/panmurebridge.school.nz/digital-footsteps-2016/writing-mrs-a-2016 - it may give you some FAB ideas to carry on with.
